Train/Car/Bus Ramble: Bennerley Viaduct

We will walk along the Erewash Canal south for a mile & then turn west to cross the midland railway footbridge going over the fields through Strelley Village & past the lions to Swingate, Kimberly & Bennerly Viaducts new visitor centre & cafe where we have lunch. Then walk over the viaduct.

About the event
Start walk at 10.30am from Ilkeston Train Station. We wait for bus/train in case of late arrival. Walk: Approximately 6 miles. From Ilkeston Railway Station walk along the Erewash Canal southbound for a mile & then turn west to cross the midland railway footbridge going over the fields through Strelley Village & past the lions to Swingate, Kimberly & Bennerly Viaducts new visitor centre & cafe where we have lunch. Then walk over the viaduct onto the Erewash Canal & back to Ilkeston.

Directions by train: From Nottingham departure 10:17am arrives Ilkeston 10:29am. From Chesterfield / Alfreton (09:54/10:05 departures
respectively) arrives Ilkeston 10:15am.
Directions by car:Access to car park is off Station Road Ilkeston, very close to the roundabout with the A6096 and Coronation Road. Charges apply: 24hr daily rate £3.00. Off-peak day: £2.20 (from 10:00 to 02:30 Mon-Fri).
